Paksy Plackis-Cheng is speaking at the Centre for Geopolitics @ University of Cambridge.
Leading academics gathered to discuss the most pressing challenges, esp. in the. Many pointed out the redrawing of the world map, structures, focused on the and.

However, geopolitical power is no longer solely held by nations.

NVIDIA's market capitalization exceeds 5 trillion dollars. This makes NVIDIA larger than any economy in the world! Except for two (see above).

Amazon's annual revenues exceed the economic output of Belgium.

Meta interacts and influences 3.98 billion monthly active users.

Google decides what information you see first.

A handful of US corporations whose financial capacity exceeds that of sovereign states, exercise without assuming the corresponding responsibilities of statehood: no accountability to populations, no obligation to universal service, and no democratic mandate.

In short,, (the world!) depends on US' software and China's rare earth minerals and hardware.

For the UK and Europe to replicate the Chinese or American models to compete is unrealistic.

I've been in tech for 2 decades, incl. that changed our lives so drastically: Mobile Internet. Today, we're the advent of the revolution that will change our world even more dramatically, in ways we cannot even fathom yet. "I've worked in both American and European startups, initiating and leading complex consortia." For the last 3 years, the EU has funded impactmania's research into AI systems and can confidently say that other avenues exist for UK + Europe that offer genuine competitive advantages.

Because the path to Europe innovation copying US or Chinese companies and models is a false narrative; not every nation should/could build its own LLM. Europe can't compete by imitating. This combination of venture funds' breadth and depth, defense-linked institutions, is one Europe cannot easily replicate.

Instead, Europe must compete through the deliberate construction of (not over-regulation) and mandates (not over-regulation!), layers (seamless digital options), and the that sustains long-horizon bets. Cross-sector co-creation and integration. Each of these represents an area where European institutions possess a genuine comparative advantage but have consistently failed to deploy it strategically.

Thank you for the invitation: Prof. Yuka Kobayashi and Prof. William Hurst.

P.S. Literally running into Piret Potisepp (!) who invited me to speak about AI in Estonia. A chance meeting on a random street corner in a country where neither of us lives is an experience that beats any technology!
