We wrapped up the second session w/ AlgorithmWatch, impactmania, and FINDHR focused on AI-powered decision systems.
impactmania shared findings from 3 years of into AI category as defined by the AI systems used in hiring. These tools sourcing, screening, and selecting humans (for medical waitlist, college, jobs, housing, benefits, etc) impact human lives at scale, yet many systems fail basic. Case in point: several AI systems selected unqualified candidates over top-tier talent because it learned from flawed data.

I strongly believe AI can tackle challenges. And all for merit based advancement. Unfortunately, today's systems aren't there yet.

In the qualitative part of the research, we have even seen candidates stripping senior roles and language skills to pass the machine. As one HR leader during the session put it: "…the best people often come from non-traditional paths." AI must get better at seeing them.

Let's build AI that can recommend humans with accuracy, impartiality, and vision. Impactmania is collaborating with organizations committed to further testing and refining AI systems.

Thank you to everyone serving as the human-in-the-loop, those refining these systems, applying them thoughtfully, and ensuring critical checks and balances. Your input is driving the development of more responsible and human-centered AI.
