Human Mind and Migration Program \u2014 MIGRATION THROUGH SONGS<\/span><\/h2>\n

The students of Messaggero Veneto Scuola<\/a> are part of the\u00a0impactmania\u2019s<\/em><\/a>\u00a0internship program for the 2020-2021 academic year. A series of migration topics were explored in this Program that will culminate in an online exhibition and presentation, May 2021.<\/p>\n

COVID made us all Digital Nomads<\/a>, however, it didn\u2019t stop us from cross-cultural, interdisciplinary learning.<\/p>\n

I chose this topic because music has always been a fundamental part of my life. This strong passion was handed down to me by my parents, who are also very passionate. In fact, my father has always played drums and ever since I was little I have always gone to see him play for clubs. He passed on to me the love for classic rock of the 60s and 70s. My mother, on the other hand, has always been passionate about music in general, and she passed on to me the love for \u201880s music and Italian songwriting. <\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Furthermore, what binds me particularly to this topic is the fact that my parents are children of Italian migrants, who moved to Switzerland to look for better job opportunities. In conclusion, music has always been my greatest passion, and this article proves it. I think music is one of the greatest sources of freedom of expression in existence, and I also think it is among the most beautiful art forms in the world.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Since the origins of humanity, the human has always felt the strong need to move to different places due to different needs: to explore new lands, to search for new resources, and in more modern times, driven by the hope for new opportunities. Over time this phenomenon has taken the name of ”migration,” thus giving a name to this human need. Migration is in fact an experience that greatly affects the person who moves from one place to another, leaving indelible marks on their life. These strong experiences with the passage of time have started to turn into books, poems, and even many songs.<\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/em>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

One of these songs is<\/span> “Englishman in New York<\/span><\/a>” by <\/span>Sting,<\/span><\/a> ex frontman of <\/span>The Police<\/span><\/a>. This song was born after Sting’s visit in 1986 to <\/span>Quentin Crisp<\/span><\/a>‘s New York flat, writer, author, model, and gay icon of the ’70s. During this visit, Quentin told the singer how difficult homosexual life was in Britain in the 1970s, a homophobic country. Sting was so impressed by this experience that he decided to write a song about it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From this, ”Englishman in New York” was born, which represents a real praise to the courage to be oneself despite everything, the diversity of the individual, and the courage to live the life of a ”foreigner in a foreign land,” just like Quentin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The importance of being oneself in the song is reinforced by numerous verses such as “Manners maketh man,” a verse which invites us to be ourselves in the larger conception of the term.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another very important verse is “Be yourself, no matter what they say,” words that invite you to not give too much importance to what others think. The song was released in 1988, as the third single from Sting’s second solo album, … <\/span>Nothing Like the Sun<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Although in many European countries the song was more successful, and in America and England it wasn’t as approved, it was ranked 51st in the <\/span>Official Singles Chart<\/span><\/a>, 84th on the <\/span>Billboard Hot 100<\/span><\/a>, and 32nd on <\/span>Mainstream Rock<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span>

\n<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Another song about migration is ”<\/span>Clandestino<\/span><\/a>” by <\/span>Manu Chao<\/span><\/a>, a French singer and songwriter with Spanish origins. The song was released in 2000 and is in the homonymous album called <\/span>Clandestino<\/span>.<\/span><\/a> Manu Chao in “Clandestino” tells the story of an illegal immigrant, and aims to expose the problem of immigration seen from the side of migrants rather than the host country’s point of view. In a more general sense, however, the song talks about the numerous problems of migration that the authorities, especially the government, are unable to solve.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The immigrants mentioned in the song are illegal immigrants who are forced to travel from one country to another in very dangerous ways, especially across the sea, and, once arrived, have to face many problems with local authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The song conveys a very strong message which aims to draw attention to suffering, injustice for their conditions, isolation, and discrimination which illegal immigrants are forced to deal with. The lines of this song almost seem to be written quickly, as if they were the result of pure emotion and simplicity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even the musical melody remains consistent with this, as it is made up of few instruments and few notes. All the lyrics of this song are particularly significant, but there are verses that strike more powerfully, such as ”Para burlar la ley” (To mock the law) and ”Mi vida va prohibida dice la autoridad” (My life is forbidden says the government).<\/span><\/p>\n

These are verses that highlight this strong fear for the law, which prohibits illegal immigrants from being able to live their lives so much that life is defined as ”forbidden.” Finally, a very important verse is ”Albaneses, clandestinos\/Boliviano, clandestino\/Mexicano, clandestino” a verse that remembers the particular migrant’s internationality, recounting all migrants’ suffering. All of them suffer for a better life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Flowing into the rock genre instead, we find another song, ”<\/span>Immigrant Song<\/span><\/a>” by the famous band <\/span>Led Zeppelin<\/span><\/a>. This song came out in 1970, and was released as a single from their third album called<\/span> Led Zeppelin III<\/span><\/a>. The song was composed by <\/span>Jimmy Page<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Robert Plant<\/span><\/a> during a tour in Iceland.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It describes Vikings<\/span><\/a> saying a prayer as they prepare to land on the west coast of England. Within the song there are many references to <\/span>Nordic mythology<\/span><\/a>, such as ”The cloak of the gods” (hammer of the gods).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The terms are very aggressive, just like the topics being treated, which are heavily warlike, regarding Viking invasions. Although the song does not seem to belong completely to the sphere of migration, through interpretative changes it can be strongly current in some points of view.<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, it can be compared to the actual European immigration situation, which involves immigrants coming from underdeveloped countries, in some cases destroyed by wars. Even if it is not an invasion war, the force with which migrants set out to new countries to seek safety is comparable to that of the Vikings moving toward the conquests of new lands.<\/span><\/p>\n

This force can be found throughout the song, especially through the melody, which is essentially made up of a single unstoppable and obsessive guitar riff, supported by bass guitar and aggressive drums. Some verses are particularly significant, especially the one that reads ”On we sweep with threshing oar\/Our only goal will be the western shore.”<\/span><\/p>\n

This verse is in fact what gives the song its relationship with migration. The song was a great success, as it ranked 16th on the Billboard Chart<\/span><\/a>, and was also used later for two films, <\/span>Shrek III<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>School of Rock<\/span>.<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Remaining on a very lively kind of music, we also find ‘<\/span>‘Immigrant Punk<\/span><\/a>,” a song by <\/span>Gogol Bordello<\/span><\/a>, a band from New York. The interesting thing about this band is that the most of the members were immigrants from<\/span> Eastern Europe<\/span><\/a>; their frontman <\/span>Eugene H\u00fctz<\/span><\/a>, for example, is <\/span>Ukrainian<\/span><\/a>, but moved to the United States after the 1986 <\/span>Chernobyl disaster<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Arriving in the U.S. he met the guitarist Vlad Solofar, the accordionist Sasha Kazatchkoff, and the drummer Eliot Fergusen; later they also met the Russian violinist Sergey Rjabtzev. The song ”Immigrant Punk” released in 2004 and part of the album Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The song is about the experience of an immigrant feeling initially disoriented as he arrives in a new country, until a meeting with another migrant with a similar story.<\/span><\/p>\n

This song contains multiple stories in the experience of a single man and spreads a positive message centered on hope, as it makes it clear to all those who have had an experience similar to the one told in the song that they are not alone, but that the world is indeed full of people like them. Some significant lines of the song are ”Legalize me! Realize me!”, a verse that expresses the desire of the protagonist to be able to live a legal life, or, ”Of course we immigrants wanna sing all night long\/Don’t you know the singing salves the troubled soul?” through which you can understand how difficult it is to live as immigrants, called “troubled souls.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, ”I see another immigrant punk,” which expresses not being alone, but surrounded by people with similar experiences.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Even in Italian culture there are songs that speak of migration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

One of these is ”E cantava le canzoni<\/span><\/a>” by <\/span>Rino Gaetano<\/span><\/a>, an Italian singer and songwriter of the ’70s. The song is part of the album <\/span>Nuntereggae Pi\u00f9<\/span><\/a>, and was released in 1978 and written in <\/span>Pescara<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The author took inspiration from one of the city’s visitor bathing establishments and talks about a particular type of job-related migration from South to North Italy. This features an emigrant with \u201cle provviste e pacchi di riviste\u201d<\/span> (“supplies and packs of magazines”), a mercenary <\/span>\u201ccon un figlio da sfamare ed un nemico a cui sparare\u201d<\/span> (“with a son to feed and an enemy to shoot”), a producer <\/span>\u201ccon un film da girare ed un\u2019azienda da salvare\u201d<\/span> (“with a film to make and a company to save”), all united under the name Bice, which returns several times in the song.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The whole song is not dedicated to migration, but only a few lines at the beginning, through which we are told the story of a migrant ready to return to his country: ”E partiva<\/span> l’emigrante e portava le provviste\/E due o tre pacchi di riviste\/E partiva l’emigrante ritornava<\/span> dal paese\/Con la fotografia di Bice bella come un’attrice” (<\/span>”And the emigrant would leave and carry the supplies\/And two or three packs of magazines\/And the emigrant would leave and return from the country\/With the photograph of Bice as beautiful as an actress”).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Remaining on topic with Italian songwriters, we also find ”<\/span>Pablo<\/span><\/a>,” a song by the Italian singer and songwriter <\/span>Francesco de Gregori<\/span><\/a>, contained in the album <\/span>Rimmel<\/span>.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The song tells the story of a man who is forced to emigrate after his father’s death, deciding to go to Switzerland<\/span><\/a>. There is another character, Pablo, a Spanish man, who inspired the song. Pablo is also an emigrant who left his family in his homeland to find his fortune in another country. The fate of this man, however, remains uncertain so much so that it is not clear whether he is dead or disabled due to work. With this last point, de Gregori touches several surprisingly current issues like accidents at work and the lack of responsibility of those who coordinate the work.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The song’s most relevant message is the idea that people who share similar life experiences, emigration in this case, are tied by a strong bond, just like Gogol Bordello<\/span><\/a>‘s previously analyzed song, \u201c<\/span>Immigrant Punk<\/span><\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Migration is a very current theme, even in Italy, and it is precisely for this reason that in many modern songs there are still references to the topic, such as in ”<\/span>Bagatelle<\/span><\/a>”, a song by the Italian musical group <\/span>Pinguini Tattici Nucleari<\/span><\/a>, contained in the album<\/span> Il Re \u00e8 nudo<\/span><\/a> (<\/span>The King is naked<\/span>).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The band is famous for their ability to talk about current topics with an almost ironic attitude, and for the most part accompanying the lyrics with a cheerful melody. This is precisely the case of \u201cBagatelle,\u201d which tells the story of two people, Fatima and Samir, born in a rather difficult context and going to Italy with a dinghy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within the song there is a strong contrast between the birth of this love and the place where it is born, highlighted in verses such as ”<\/span>Il sorriso di Fatima era una nave da crociera e, circondato da sale misto a sangue, il giovane Samir scopr\u00ec la primavera” (”The smile of Fatima was a cruise ship and, surrounded by salt mixed with blood, the young Samir discovered spring”).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Through this passage the listener follows the two people during the insidious journey, which leads the two to hug each other as if to cling to the hope of being able to arrive alive at their destination.<\/span><\/p>\n

The song has a very strong meaning, highlighted above and through the verses ”Affacciati dal gommone e tendimi le tue mani\/In fondo se chiudi gli occhi pare di essere sul Titanic\/Ma noi non affonderemo, vedrai che ce la faremo\/Sento gi\u00e0 profumo di pizza ma forse \u00e8 solo la libert\u00e0” (”Look out of the dinghy and hold out your hands to me\/After all if you close your eyes it seems to be on the Titanic\/But we will not sink, you will see that we gonna make it\/I already smell pizza but maybe it’s just freedom”).<\/span><\/p>\n

We have been able to see, therefore, that music has been fundamental to share important messages about migration, giving everyone the possibility to understand how hard migration can be and, on the other hand, making migrants feel less alone by giving them hope.<\/span><\/p>\n

Migrazione attraverso le canzoni<\/span><\/h2>\n

Gli studenti del Messaggero Veneto Scuola<\/a> fanno parte del programma di stage di impactmania<\/em><\/a> per l’anno accademico 2020-2021. Una serie di argomenti sulla migrazione sono stati esplorati in questo programma che culminer\u00e0 in una mostra e presentazione online a maggio 2021.<\/p>\n

Il COVID ci ha resto tutti nomadi digitali, tuttavia, non ci ha fermati dall\u2019apprendimento interculturale e interdisciplinare.<\/p>\n

Ho scelto questo argomento perch\u00e8 la musica \u00e8 sempre stata una parte fondamentale della mia vita. Questa forte passione mi \u00e8 stata tramandata dai miei genitori, anche loro molto appassionati. Mio padre infatti ha sempre suonato la batteria e fin da quando sono piccola sono sempre andata a vederlo suonare nei locali. Mi ha trasmesso l’amore per il rock classic degli anni ’60 e ’70. Mia mamma invece \u00e8 sempre stata appassionata di musica in generale, e lei mi ha trasmesso l’amore per la musica anni ’80 e il cantautorato italiano. Inoltre, ci\u00f2 che mi lega particolarmente a questo argomento \u00e8 il fatto che i miei genitori siano figli di migranti italiani che si sono trasferiti in Svizzera per cercare opportunit\u00e0 lavorative migliori. In conclusione, la musica \u00e8 sempre stata la mia pi\u00f9 grande passione, e questo articolo ne \u00e8 la dimostrazione. Trovo che essa sia una delle pi\u00f9 grandi fonti di libert\u00e0 di espressione esistenti, e credo inoltre che sia tra le pi\u00f9 belle opere d’arte del mondo.<\/p>\n

Fin dalle origini dell’umanit\u00e0, l’uomo ha sempre sentito il forte bisogno di spostarsi in diversi luoghi, spinto da diverse necessit\u00e0: esplorare nuove terre, ricercare nuove risorse e, in tempi pi\u00f9 moderni, nuove opportunit\u00e0. Con il passare del tempo questo fenomeno ha preso il nome di ”migrazione”, fornendo cos\u00ec un nome a questa esigenza umana. La migrazione per\u00f2 \u00e8 di fatto un’esperienza che influisce molto sull\u2019individuo che si sposta da un luogo all’altro, lasciando segni indelebili nella sua vita che nel tempo hanno cominciato a trasformarsi in libri, poesie e anche in molte canzoni.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Englishman in New York – Sting<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Una tra queste canzoni \u00e8 ”<\/span>Englishman in New York<\/span><\/a>” di <\/span>Sting<\/span><\/a>, ex frontman dei ‘<\/span>‘the Police<\/span><\/a>” nata in seguito alla visita di Sting nel 1986 a <\/span>Quentin Crisp<\/span><\/a> scrittore, autore, modello britannico, e icona gay degli anni ’70. Durante questa visita Quentin raccont\u00f2 al cantante quanto fosse difficile la vita di un omosessuale in un Paese omofobo come la Gran Bretagna in quel periodo. Sting rimase talmente tanto colpito da questa esperienza che decise di scriverci una canzone, ” Englishman a New York” per l\u2019appunto, che rappresenta un vero e proprio elogio al coraggio di essere se stessi\u00a0 nonostante tutto, di vivere la vita da ”straniero in terra straniera”, proprio come Quentin, un inno alla diversit\u00e0 dell’individuo. L’importanza dell’essere se stessi nella canzone \u00e8 ripresa in numerosi versi come ad esempio \u00abmanners maketh man\u00bb (le maniere fanno l’uomo), verso che invita ad essere se stessi nella concezione pi\u00f9 ampia del termine; un altro verso molto importante \u00e8 anche \u00abBe yourself, no matter what they say\u00bb,(sii te stesso, non importa quello che diranno), parole che invitano a non dare troppa importanza a quello che pensano gli altri. La canzone fu pubblicata nel 1988, come terzo singolo del secondo album da solista di Sting, ”<\/span>…Nothing Like the Sun<\/span><\/a>” e soprattutto in America e in Inghilterra non ebbe molto successo, in quanto si posizion\u00f2 al 51\u00ba posto nella <\/span>Official Singles Chart<\/span><\/a>, al 84\u00b0 posto nella <\/span>Billboard Hot 100<\/span><\/a> e al 32\u00b0 posto nella <\/span>Mainstream Rock Songs<\/span><\/a>. Al contrario invece in molti Paesi europei la canzone raccolse molti pi\u00f9 assensi.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Clandestino – Manu Chao<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Un’altra canzone che tratta di migrazione \u00e8 ‘<\/span>‘Clandestino<\/span><\/a>” di <\/span>Manu Chao<\/span><\/a>, un cantautore francese ma di origine spagnola. La canzone risale al 2000 e fa parte dell’omonimo album. Il brano nel suo significato pi\u00f9 profondo \u00e8 un ”canto” di un immigrato clandestino, e ha lo scopo di trattare il problema dell’immigrazione dalla parte dell’immigrato e non da quella del Paese che lo ospita. In senso pi\u00f9 generale invece la canzone parla dei numerosi problemi dell’immigrazione che le autorit\u00e0, specialmente governative, non riescono a risolvere. Gli immigrati di cui si parla nel brano sono immigrati clandestini che sono costretti a muoversi affrontando grandi pericoli, soprattutto in mare, e che una volta arrivati a destinazione si trovano ad avere diversi problemi con le autorit\u00e0. La canzone trasmette un messaggio molto forte che ha lo scopo di richiamare l’attenzione sulle sofferenze degli immigrati illegali, sull’ingiustizia della loro condizione, sulla loro condanna all’emarginazione forzata e alla discriminazione e all’isolamento a cui sono costretti. I versi sembrano quasi essere scritti di getto, come se fossero frutto di pura emozione e semplicit\u00e0. Anche la base musicale ben si adatta al testo perch\u00e8 formata da pochi strumenti e da poche note. Tutto il testo di questa canzone \u00e8 particolarmente significativo, ma ci sono dei versi che colpiscono in maniera pi\u00f9 potente, come ad esempio ”Para burlar la ley” (Per burlare la legge) e ”Mi vida va prohibida Dice la autoridad” (La mia vita \u00e8 vietata dice la giustizia), parole che mettono in evidenza questa forte paura della legge, che vieta loro di vivere la propria vita. Infine ”Albaneses, clandestinos, Boliviano, clandestino, Mexicano, clandestino” (Albanese, clandestino, Boliviano, clandestino, Messicano, clandestino), \u00e8 un verso della\u00a0 canzone di Manu Chao che racconta\u00a0 la sofferenza di tutti i migranti, indipendentemente dal loro paese di provenienza. Tutti\u00a0 soffrono per lo stesso motivo: avere una vita migliore.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Immigrant Song – Led Zeppelin<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Considerando ora il genere rock troviamo un’altra canzone, ”<\/span>Immigrant Song<\/span><\/a>” del celebre gruppo <\/span>Led Zeppelin<\/span><\/a> che risale al 1970 e venne pubblicata come un estratto del loro terzo album chiamato ”<\/span>Led Zeppelin III<\/span><\/a>”. Il brano venne composto da <\/span>Jimmy Page<\/span><\/a> e<\/span> Robert Plant<\/span><\/a>, durante un tour in Islanda, luogo che fa da sfondo alla canzone. Rappresenta un canto dei <\/span>vichinghi<\/span><\/a> che si preparano ad approdare nella costa occidentale dell’Inghilterra e contiene molti riferimenti alla <\/span>mitologia nordica<\/span><\/a>, come ad esempio ”il martello degli dei” (Hammer of the Gods). Il lessico \u00e8 molto aggressivo, proprio come gli argomenti che vengono trattati, che sono fortemente guerreschi, riguardanti i vichinghi invasori. Nonostante il brano non sembri centrare con il tema della migrazione, sotto alcuni punti di vista pu\u00f2 invece risultare fortemente attuale. Il contesto di guerra pu\u00f2 essere paragonato alle tante situazioni di conflitti vissute attualmente in molti Paesi del mondo\u00a0 dai quali fuggono gli immigrati che giungono in Europa. La forza con cui i migranti si avviano verso nuovi Paesi in cerca della salvezza \u00e8 paragonabile a quella dei vichinghi che si muovevano verso la conquista di nuove terre. Questa forza si ritrova in tutta la canzone, soprattutto nella melodia, che \u00e8 costituita essenzialmente da un unico riff di chitarra inarrestabile e ossessivo , sorretto dal basso, e da una batteria aggressiva. Alcuni versi sono particolarmente significativi, in particolar modo quello che recita ”On we sweep with threshing oar. Our only goal will be the western shore” (Avanziamo contro vento, Il nostro obiettivo \u00e8 la costa occidentale) nel quale possiamo trovare espressa la relazione con la migrazione. La canzone riscontr\u00f2 un gran successo, in quanto si posizion\u00f2 al 16\u00b0 nella <\/span>classifica di Billboard<\/span><\/a>\u00a0 venne in seguito usata anche per due film, ‘<\/span>‘shrek III<\/span><\/a>” e ”<\/span>School of Rock<\/span><\/a>”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Immigrant Punk – Gogol Bordello<\/span><\/p>\n

Rimanendo su un genere molto movimentato troviamo invece ”<\/span>Immigrant Punk<\/span><\/a>”, una canzone dei <\/span>Gogol Bordello<\/span><\/a>, una band di New York. La cosa interessante di questa band \u00e8 che \u00e8 composta per la gran parte\u00a0 da immigrati originari dell’<\/span>Europa orientale<\/span><\/a>; Il loro frontman <\/span>Eugene H\u00fctz<\/span><\/a> per esempio \u00e8 <\/span>ucraino<\/span><\/a>, ma si trasfer\u00ec negli Stati Uniti in seguito al <\/span>disastro di Chernobyl<\/span><\/a> del 1986. Giunto negli USA incontr\u00f2 il chitarrista Vlad Solofar, il fisarmonicista Sasha Kazatchkoff ed il batterista Eliot Fergusen e, in seguito anche il violinista Sergey Rjabtzev originario della Russia. La canzone ”Immigrant Punk” risale al 2004 ed \u00e8 parte dell’album ”<\/span>Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike<\/span><\/a>”. Il brano parla dell’esperienza di un immigrato che giunge in un nuovo Paese, e che inizialmente si sente particolarmente spaesato fino a quando non incontra un altro immigrato con una storia simile alla sua. Questa canzone racchiude nell’esperienza di un uomo solo le storie di moltissime persone, e diffonde un messaggio positivo incentrato sulla speranza, in quanto fa capire a tutti quelli che hanno avuto un’esperienza simile a quella raccontata nella canzone che non sono soli, ma anzi circondati da persone come loro. Alcuni versi significativi della canzone sono ”Legalize me! Realize me!” verso che esprime la voglia del protagonista del brano di poter vivere una vita nella legalit\u00e0; oppure ”Of course we immigrants wanna sing all night long, Don’t you know the singing salves the troubled soul?”\u00a0 (Naturalmente noi immigrati vogliamo cantare tutta la notte Non conosci il canto che risolve l’anima travagliata?), che fa comprendere quanto sia difficile vivere la vita da immigrato, tanto da farti avere ”un’anima travagliata”; e infine ”I see another immigrant punk! ”( Vedo un altro punk immigrato!), che ricorda come vi siano esperienze simili.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

E cantava le canzoni – Rino Gaetano<\/span><\/p>\n

Anche all’interno del cantautorato italiano si trovano delle canzoni che parlano di migrazione. Una tra queste \u00e8 ”<\/span>E cantava le canzoni<\/span><\/a>” di <\/span>Rino Gaetano<\/span><\/a>, un cantautore italiano degli anni Settanta. La canzone risale al 1978 e fa parte dell’album ”<\/span>Nuntereggae pi\u00f9<\/span><\/a>”. Il brano nacque a <\/span>Pescara<\/span><\/a>, e l’autore prese l’ispirazione da un frequentatore di uno degli stabilimenti balneari della citt\u00e0. La canzone parla di un particolare tipo di migrazione: quella degli abitanti del sud Italia che migrano verso il Nord Italia in cerca di opportunit\u00e0 lavorative pi\u00f9 ampie. Questa vede come protagonisti un emigrante con \u201cle provviste e pacchi di riviste\u201d, un mercenario \u201ccon un figlio da sfamare ed un nemico a cui sparare\u201d, un produttore \u201ccon un film da girare ed un\u2019azienda da salvare\u201d, tutti accomunati dal nome Bice, che ritorna pi\u00f9 volte nel brano. Non tutta la canzone \u00e8 dedicata alla migrazione, ma solo pochi versi all’inizio, attraverso i quali ci viene raccontata la storia di un migrante pronto a tornare nel suo Paese; ”E partiva l’emigrante e portava le provviste, E due o tre pacchi di riviste, E partiva l’emigrante ritornava dal Paese, Con la fotografia di Bice bella come un’attrice”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sempre rimanendo all’interno del cantautorato italiano troviamo anche ”<\/span>Pablo<\/span><\/a>”, una canzone del cantautore italiano <\/span>Francesco de Gregori<\/span><\/a>, contenuta nell’album ”<\/span>Rimmel<\/span><\/a>”. Il brano racconta la storia di un uomo che \u00e8 costretto ad emigrare in seguito alla morte del padre, e decide di andare in <\/span>Svizzera<\/span><\/a>. Vi \u00e8 per\u00f2 un altro personaggio, Pablo, un uomo spagnolo, a cui \u00e8 ispirata la canzone. Anche Pablo \u00e8 un emigrante che ha lasciato la sua famiglia nella terra d’origine per trovare fortuna in un altro Paese. Il destino di quest’uomo per\u00f2 rimane incerto, tanto che non si capisce se sia morto oppure rimasto invalido a causa del lavoro. Con questo ultimo punto de Gregori tocca un tema molto importante e ancora sorprendentemente attuale, ovvero quello degli infortuni sul lavoro, e di conseguenza la mancata responsabilit\u00e0 di chi il lavoro lo d\u00e0. Il messaggio pi\u00f9 rilevante della canzone \u00e8 l’idea che le persone che condividono esperienze simili della vita, come in questo caso l’emigrazione, siano legate da un forte legame, proprio come la canzone precedentemente analizzata dei <\/span>Gogol Bordello<\/span><\/a>, ”<\/span>Immigrant Punk<\/span><\/a>”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bagatelle – Pinguini Tattici Nucleari<\/span><\/p>\n

La migrazione per\u00f2 \u00e8 tuttora un tema molto attuale, anche in Italia, ed \u00e8 proprio per questo che in molte canzoni moderne si trovano ancora riferimenti alle migrazioni, come ad esempio in ”<\/span>Bagatelle<\/span><\/a>” una canzone del gruppo musicale italiano <\/span>Pinguini Tattici Nucleari<\/span><\/a>, contenuta nell’album \u2018\u2019<\/span>Il re \u00e8 nudo<\/span><\/a>”. La band \u00e8 famosa per la sua capacit\u00e0 di parlare di argomenti attuali con un atteggiamento quasi ironico e per la maggior parte delle volte accompagnando il testo con una melodia allegra. E’ proprio questo il caso di Bagatelle, dove si racconta della storia d’amore di due ragazzi, Fatima e Samir, che nasce in un contesto alquanto difficile, sopra il gommone che li sta portando in Italia. <\/span> Nella canzone vi \u00e8 un forte contrasto tra la nascita di questo amore e il luogo in cui nasce, evidenziato in versi come ”Il sorriso di Fatima era una nave da crociera e, circondato da sale misto a sangue, il giovane Samir scopr\u00ec la primavera”. Tramite questo brano l’ascoltatore segue I due ragazzi durante il tragitto insidioso, che porta I due a stringersi l’un l’altra come per aggrapparsi alla speranza di poter arrivare vivi a destinazione. La canzone ha davvero un significato molto forte, messo in evidenza dai versi ”Affacciati dal gommone e tendimi le tue mani, In fondo se chiudi gli occhi pare di essere sul Titanic, Ma noi non affonderemo, vedrai che ce la faremo, Sento gi\u00e0 profumo di pizza ma forse \u00e8 solo la libert\u00e0”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Come abbiamo potuto vedere dunque, la musica \u00e8 stata fondamentale per condividere un messaggio cos\u00ec importante come la migrazione. Da un lato ha dato la possibilit\u00e0 a chi non l’ha vissuta di comprendere di che cosa si tratti e di quanto possa essere difficile, dall’altro \u00e8 stata capace di stare vicino a chi ci \u00e8 passato facendolo sentire meno solo e pi\u00f9 compreso.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
