UN Features impactmania’s Video: The Future of Business is Responsible

impactmania was invited to India to witness United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in action.

Jaipur Rugs, winner of the German Award Design prize, started with 9 weavers 39 years ago. Today, it works with 40,000 (!) artisans across 600 villages in India — 85 percent are women.

Jaipur Rugs and Jaipur Rugs Foundation provides training, work, and growth opportunities to women at home. These women can remain in their communities instead of migrating to a city and work in factories.

Jaipur Rugs Foundation and impactmania’s video was featured at the United Nations (UN) Global Compact Conference, April 2017.

The short video was featured at the recent UN Global Compact Conference in New Delhi, India! It shows how a social enterprise at scale addresses women’s equality and responsible production through the example of one woman artisan. The mother of six children has been taking advantage of by other rug companies; she, as with so many others, was paid little or not at all for her work.

After a lifetime of poverty, she became a weaver with Jaipur Rugs, and now leads 25 other women artisans. With the money she makes, she is able to care for family — even sends her daughters to school.

There are millions of women in the global manufacturing supply chains. How do you impact responsible production and consumption?
